The Challenge

Pacific Gas & Electric company promotes a wide variety of energy-savings programs and opportunities to its customers. One of the primary campaigns to its commercial customers in 2016 is to promote conversion from incandescent lighting to high-efficiency LED lighting. Reaching these busy customers with standout communications that educate and motivate is a challenge.

The Solution

AP42 worked with PG&E on an innovative approach to engaging businesses in both educating them on the benefits of LED lighting, and motivating them to take advantage of PG&E rebates for converting to LED.
AP42 created a combination of digital communications including a series of vertically targeted emails, custom landing page experiences, and a virtual reality tour available on the PG&E web site, as well as through apps for iOS and Android smartphones that offer tours of vertical venues optimized for the Google Cardboard VR viewer. To make the most of the VR app, AP42 designed custom PG&E-branded Google Cardboard viewers that can be given by PG&E energy advisors to their commercial customers.


By tying these elements together in a coherent campaign and contact strategy, PG&E is communicating with its customers through mutually supporting touchpoints. AP42’s use of new models, methods and technologies reinforces PG&E’s reputation as a leader in digital communications and customer care.
